you have a really good technique for making your videos have a cinematic feel to them,
as i have probably said before.
my one minor critique would be to have the camera a bit closer.
but, that is just my opinion. by all means do whatever you want.
when i watch your videos, they don't really have that constrictive feel.
what i mean by that, is i don't think about the game physics more so than your own.
when you watch something like MK vs SF by Proxicide, you know it's trying to replicate the games.
therefore, you know the video has limitations, because it's set to the game's standards.
at least with yours, you don't have those limitations.

TechLeSSWaYz responds:

Camera abit closer, noted! Thanks for the feedback! I do try to use the sprites to the best of their abilities!

i have a hard time providing constructive criticism on sprite videos that showcase shoto fighters.
here it goes!
i found the voices to be both engaging and distracting, and i'll try to elaborate.
some voice clips seemed to fit well, while others didn't make sense.
it appeared as though you were restricted with the clips, at least with the characters outside of Ryu and Akuma. those two fit well and were not distracting.
however, i realized that you did the best you could with the limited voice resources you had.
this video is your best one by far both in animation quality and voice/ sound mixing.
i won't deduct points for you using characters that i am not really a fan of, however
if i could give you a good piece of advice, try to branch away from shoto fighters.
you have managed to do some creative things, but the well is running dry on these sprites.
it is hard to be innovative with characters that have been used by so many people before, and hell, proxicide might have just put shotos and mk ninjas on life support.
i am trying not to rant, but i am hoping to see more from you in the future with characters that could better showcase your talents.
good luck, man!

MysticSkillz responds:

Thanks for the comment Heartless. I can understand where you coming from about using other characters. But like you said with limited voice resources I can do but so much. And plus I think the other characters work for Street Fighter mini short. :)

wow, i can see you are still getting a lot better!
i can't really pen point what your style really is, but it is unique.
i really wish you could do a full length one on one fight, like your Senna vs Ibiki fight.
that could really showcase your talents.
the smoke effects you used for attacking is something i really haven't seen, so
i was wondering what your thought process was in doing that as a full time effect for the movie.

TechLeSSWaYz responds:

Thanks!! ^_^
You'd actually be surprised on how many projects I have in my flash folder... 1 on 1, 1 vs 2, 1 vs 3. all that... my next publish will be EXACTLY what you are looking for ;D(not the syndicates ep. 2)
As for the smoke effect: now that i have the SFX's to go with it, I can use that more often.

Bravo.
for your first flash it was great.
your sprite alinement for the stances and some of the effects were kinda off,
but you had really good camera shakes to mask it a bit during the fights.
also, your audio compression rate seemed like it was set low.
believe it or not, the fatality parts caught me off guard.
you just don't normally see them now days in sprite videos
even with MK characters, so Kudos to you.
my advice, maybe set a guideline layer on the ground so
you stances will be forced into alinement. (basically)
and effects are pretty ridicules to figure out, but
for the most part, they are center focused.
keep it up, man. hope to see more from you.

Yes I agree fully on your word, you see before I was taught the legit stuff by r1665, I was already to far in the video and r1665 suggested I should do it over but I was hard headed and didnt want to start back from scratch even though it might not took me as long as before; but I was so eager seeing you all great flashes.

dude, it will be great once you make a full length fight. (like two and a half, to three minutes)
my only complaint would be that your menu kind of took me out of the fight for a second.
i also didn't like the two times you did a large barrage of spam moves/projectiles.
but, that is just me. (proxicide did it forever ago and i didn't like it then either)
plus you are still in the developmental stage, like a lot of us.
when you find your niche, it will be awesome.

diochi responds:

yea I took a bit of a gamble with the menu. wanted to make it feel like a game. just something i'll have to work on if i ever try it again.(lol i just remembered scorpions ocean of spears)

anyways I appreciate a usefull review(unlike a certain someone *cough penguinman62 cough*)

ha!
when i play COD i say the same thing.
i really like how you never resorted to screaming to get your point across.
too many videos do that now days. i think the way to get "fame" on newgrounds isn't in animation skill, but focusing on the strengths of your style and making it your own.
animations like Ultimate Showdown or the first few awesome cartoons weren't
exactly Bitey of Brackenwood material, but they rather, found their niche.

TerminalMontage responds:

Thanks :D Yeah I'm still working on exactly how I'll be doing things, and on my humor. The humor's pretty low key now and each animation is a wee bit different, but I'm learning more and improving :D

well, i can say that i haven't seen anything like this on the portal.
i think that you did great considering you had a lack of resources.
i know you said you were pressed for time, but i believe that if you ever do something like this again,
use something like reverse-reverb on the voices.
everybody has their own definition of art.

artsykey responds:

reverse-reverb :) I'll have to remember that!

very good

it's always nice to see Makoto and Ibuki used because they have awesome sprites
and only a few people use them.
plus you used dubstep as the fight music and made it work. that is really cool.
your movements themselves were very smooth.
what stopped me from giving you a 10 wasn't the length of it but rather it was kind of jumpy in regard to having Makoto seemingly teleport all over the place for a combo.
and it never made sence to me how/why characters kick off of invisible walls in the sides, but that second one is more of my own personal taste.
i hope to see a full length fight from you in the future.

jqzjqz responds:

Thanks! This was meant to be short. I've always wanted to make a fight scene using dubstep, but making it match with the choreography is very difficult.

Part 3 will not disappoint!

wow

this really is a work of art. everyone involved did a awesome job.
the music choices where perfect. the art was fantastic. the voice work matched the characters very well. the scripting was appropriately realistic.
all this together told your story so well, that it feels like a "real" show.
i have one minor critique, the music during the fight scene seems to drown out some of the dialog. but really, it doesn't affect my score at all.

R1665 responds:

Yeah, getting proper volume levels between loud fight anthems and dialogue is always a bit tricky.

R1665

great, but...

to me your ryu sprites seemed to have a stop-go-stop kind of feel.
now correct me if i am wrong but i believe it could have been because you boasted your frames per second in order to make dragonclaw maneuver better.
i think that the third strike version of ryu is run at 25-30 fps and the ryu from capcom vs snk (which is what i think the one you used is based off of)
is ran at 20-25 fps.
that being said, i believe the third strike version would have complimented dragonclaw better.
i think the backgrounds need some work, but it didn't take away from this movie because you were at least willing to make a couple area transfers.
you have some creative fight choreography, and i can see you improving really fast.

8/10

diochi responds:

your review was pretty spot on except it wasn't snk ryu but rather alpha ryu.
I did in fact raise the fps to 34 in so that dragonclaws speed would as fast as he was i mugen(or almost as fast in this case) and was forced to double frame evil ryu's movements so that he would'nt look too far fetched.

I have only played a few street fighters so i didn't know that some had higher frame rates than others. If I had I would have used the Evil Ryu from 3rd Strike(assuming 3rd Strike had an Evil Ryu)

In any case thanks for telling me about the frame rates that will come in handy for future vids and I'm glad that you enjoyed watching this.

...i am...wait that's it.
